Glorie WORLD Donation - In Memory of Jeanne
Doug’s sister, Jeanne, used to spend her winters in Matagorda, Texas and her summers with us here on the farm. She very much enjoyed the variety of work – trimming, picking, packing, and delivering fruit, and occasionally working in the tasting room. She was a journeyman welder and constructed the large grape cluster that stands on the knoll outside the tasting room.
When she arrived from Texas in March of 2010, Jeanne wasn’t feeling well. There were multiple trips to the ER, many tests, medications, possible diagnoses, a nine week hospital stay, four surgeries, and finally, chemotherapy. Sadly, Jeanne passed away on October 22nd.
Jeanne’s last two weeks were spent at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh; it is the only facility in Orange and Sullivan Counties designed and built to provide 24 hour hospice care. After spending many weeks in the hospital, it was a comfort to Jeanne to live out her few remaining days in the Kaplan facility. Kaplan is a warm, inviting, and quiet place, and after many weeks of unrelenting physical pain, we believe Jeanne found some measure of peace both physically and emotionally in her brief stay there.
Our new Glorie WORLD wine was created with the broad concept of “peace” in mind. Peace in the world. Peace in our everyday lives. That’s something we could all use a little more of. In memory of Jeanne, $1.00 from each bottle sold will be donated to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. Jeanne was a low-key and easygoing kind of gal with a big heart. We think she’d approve.
